Statement from new Business Council President Tim Reed

Business Council of Australia

I am delighted to have been officially endorsed as the Business Council of Australia’s president by members today.

I want to thank Grant King for his leadership and wise counsel to the business community over the last three years.

The members today also endorsed the election of Jean-Sébastien Jacques (Rio Tinto) and the return of Danny Gilbert (Gilbert+Tobin) and Peter Coleman (Woodside) to the board. They join Alan Joyce (Qantas), Catherine Tanna (EnergyAustralia) and Alison Watkins (Coca-Cola Amatil).

I also want to take the opportunity to recognise Joanne Farrell (Rio Tinto) for her service to the board and the BCA over the past two years. I wish Joanne the very best for her retirement.

The Business Council’s goal is to help build a more dynamic and competitive economy that gives Australians the new jobs and higher wages they deserve.

I’m looking forward to working with Jennifer Westacott and the Business Council team to deliver on that promise and ensure Australia is positioned for the challenges of the future.
