JOINT STATEMENT

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Minister for Fire and Emergency Services Mark Ryan have expressed their deep sadness over the death of Queensland Fire and Rescue Service firefighter Izabella Nash.

Izabella passed away overnight following a fire at Slacks Creek yesterday morning.

The Premier said her thoughts and sympathies were with Izabella’s family, friends and colleagues.

“I wish to extend my sincere condolences to all those who are grieving the loss of Izabella,” the Premier said.

“She was clearly devoted to her job, on the front line supporting her fellow Queenslanders.

“Izabella’s passing is a terribly sad and poignant reminder of the dangers our front-line staff face on a daily basis.”

Fire and Emergency Services Minister Mark Ryan said the Fire and Rescue Service was devastated by the loss of Izabella.

“Our firefighters are a tightknit group and Izabella’s loss will be deeply felt,” the Minister said.

“My heartfelt sympathies go to Izabella’s family, friends and colleagues.

“The motto of the Fire and Rescue Service is Semper Paratus, Always Ready, and Izabella clearly demonstrated her commitment to that ideal, doing everything she could to support her fellow Queenslanders.

“This is a terribly sad time.”
