In considering planning applications, particularly apartments and larger developments, Council relies on policy that has been developed in consultation with the community. This ensures development strikes a balance between protecting residential amenity and character, which is important to our community, while also having the flexibility required for increased density to support population growth and affordable housing options.
Council assesses each planning application on its merits. Application data indicates that in the past two financial years, Stonnington reviewed 3097 planning applications with 98 per cent approved and only 65 or 2 per cent refused.
