The National Cabinet met today to continue our work responding to the escalating impacts of the coronavirus.
The Territory is well prepared and ahead of the game, but we take nothing for granted. The health of Territorians come first.
There is no community spread of the virus in the Territory to date, and we are taking these further actions now to reduce the risk to the community as much as possible.
We will continue to work round the clock and act swiftly to protect Territorians.
The National Cabinet resolved to enact a series of measures effective from midnight tonight, enforceable by Federal, State and Territory law:
There will be a universal precautionary self-isolation requirement of 14 days for all international arrivals. This requirement will stay in place until further notice.
The Federal Government will ban cruise ships for an initial period of 30 days.
Static non-essential gatherings of more than 500 people will be prevented. This requirement will stay in place until further notice.
I have directed SecureNT to finalise and release a risk assessment tool that businesses and organisations can use to judge the clinical risk associated with their event and whether their event can proceed under the new requirement. This will be finalised in the next 24 hours.
A quick and simple process for assessing an event, as well as a hotline for businesses and organisations, will be available to the community from tomorrow.
Government schools across the NT will remain open.
The Security and Emergency Management Sub-Committee of Cabinet will meet daily from tomorrow morning to coordinate our response to the coronavirus.
We will continue to take advice from Australia’s Chief Medical and Health Officers as the situation evolves. National Cabinet will meet again on Tuesday evening.
