The Minister for the Environment and Water has issued a Statement of Expectations to the National Environment Protection Agency (National EPA).
The statement outlines the Minister’s expectations for the National EPA. It sets out how the agency will operate as a modern, best-practice regulator.
It includes expectations about:
- the role of the agency
- how the agency will do its work
- how the agency will use its powers to protect the environment.
The statement highlights the important role an independent and trusted national regulator plays in protecting and restoring Australia’s environment.
Together the statement of expectations and the National EPA’s responding statement of intent will help shape the agency’s work.
The National EPA was established on 1 July 2026.
