To achieve this goal, Council is committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all in our community, regardless of their gender identity. We believe that everyone deserves to feel welcome, respected, and valued for who they are.
Our Community Access & Inclusion Policy formalises Council’s commitment to support all people irrespective of age, gender, ability, cultural background, religion or sexual identity.
Council’s 2021-2025 Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan acknowledges our diverse community and outlines Council’s commitment to priority groups including the LGBTIQ+ community.
Council strives to promote awareness and understanding of LGBTIQ+ within our community through the creation of gender-neutral spaces and policies, use of inclusive language and imagery, and respect of individuals’ chosen names and pronouns. Council’s recruitment and hiring practices are fair and equitable, and our services, events and programs are accessible to all.
Council engages with and is guided by local LGBTIQ+ organisations and individuals to understand their needs and concerns, and to ensure partnerships in our collective work that informs our decision-making processes.
Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Kellie O’Callaghan will be joined by members of the Executive Leadership Team at the formal launch of the Rainbow Brick Road Report, produced by Gippsland Pride Initiative Inc, on IDAHOBIT Day 17 May.
Following the launch of the report, Council officers will review and provide a report for Council’s information along with an overview of the State Government’s whole-of-government LGBTIQ+ strategy, Pride in our future: Victoria’s LGBTIQ+ strategy 2022-32.
We are committed to ensuring that our Council provides a safe and an inclusive environment for all members of the community and supporting councillors and staff to undertake their roles.
We recognise that building an inclusive community requires ongoing effort and commitment and are dedicated to this work. We encourage all members of our community to join us in this effort, and to help ensure a community where everyone can feel safe and supported.
Latrobe City Council recognises that transgender and gender diverse people continue to face significant barriers and challenges. We remain committed to continuing to work together to ensure a community free from discrimination, harassment, and violence.
