On the morning of Friday 10 July 2026, a detainee was found deceased at the Melbourne Immigration Detention Centre.
Victoria Police attended the scene, and appropriate protocols have been followed. The process of notifying next of kin is underway, and all other necessary notifications have been made.
As this matter is under investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment further.
