Statement on Disability Royal Commission Final Report

NT Government

The Northern Territory Government acknowledges the Final Report of the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability and extends its thanks to the Commissioners for their work over the past four years.

The Disability Royal Commission Final Report findings will assist Governments to develop and deliver informed policy and strategies to improve the lives of people with disability.

This Royal Commission is particularly relevant to the Northern Territory given the findings on experiences of First Nations peoples with disability and people in complex situations.

We acknowledge and thank all Territorians for their participation, including those who shared their lived experiences and expertise throughout the Royal Commission.

The Northern Territory Government will work with its relevant departments, disability stakeholders and the Australian Government to consider the recommendations and what these will mean for the Northern Territory.

This work will be crucial to ensuring we are supporting people living with disability, preventing abuse, neglect and exploitation and ensuring they can access the supports they need to live a full and dignified life.

Our government will continue to prioritise supports for people with disability in the NT through the 10-year Northern Territory Disability Strategy 2022-2032 and the Strategy’s 3-year action plan 2022-2025 with the support of the Disability Advisory Committee.
