The following statement has been issued by Cancer Council Queensland:
On November 10, 2019, Cancer Council Queensland became aware that it has been alleged a former Cancer Council Queensland employee was engaging in misleading and deceptive conduct, making false representations that she had a terminal cancer diagnosis.
The former employee began her relationship with Cancer Council Queensland in 2007 as a fundraising participant. She became an employee of Cancer Council Queensland in 2014.
After advising she had been diagnosed with cancer in 2017, the employee resigned from her employment at Cancer Council Queensland in February 2019.
The person involved has been referred to the appropriate treatment she requires at this time.
Our thoughts are with those who have been impacted by this alleged false misrepresentation and all those who are truly impacted by a chronic disease.
We want to confirm that:
- The employee in this matter does not currently work at Cancer Council Queensland.
- We are doing what we can to try and alert those within the Cancer Council Queensland community who have been impacted by this conduct. This includes organising an EAP representative to provide support to Cancer Council Queensland employees.
- Cancer Council Queensland have advised PoliceLink of the matter and will be cooperating with the relevant authorities, as appropriate.
