Statement on Voice to Parliament

We acknowledge the outcome of The Voice for Parliament referendum and our thoughts go toward our community here across Bass Coast. We ask that everyone remains respectful of each other and especially of First Nations people in our community.

Bass Coast Shire Council is committed to a reconciliation journey between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples and as a result this is why we supported The Voice to Parliament.

We are mindful that many First Nations people will be saddened by this outcome and will want time to consider where this decision leaves them. Bass Coast Shire Council will continue listening to our First Nations community and working together to ensure the voices of Aboriginal people are central to our planning for the future together.

This will be a difficult time for many in our community. If you need support, reach out to Council or call Lifeline (13 11 14) or 13 YARN (13 92 76) to talk with an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Crisis Supporter.
