Step forward on Kalgoorlie City Centre project

  • Tender awarded to ASPECT Studios for detailed designs for the Kalgoorlie City Centre project
  • McGowan Government’s $8 million investment in the project to drive local job creation and Aboriginal economic participation
  • The Kalgoorlie City Centre project has taken an important step forward, with the detailed design tender awarded to ASPECT Studios.

The McGowan Government has allocated $8 million to the project, which will help to transform central Kalgoorlie while driving local jobs and Aboriginal economic development in construction.

ASPECT Studios, the designers for Yagan Square in Perth, will undertake detailed design development for the project, transforming the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s masterplan into detailed designs for a construction tender.

This stage of the project will include the development of a project delivery strategy as well as cultural engagement and development of an Aboriginal procurement and employment plan to drive local job creation and business participation opportunities.

The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and ASPECT Studios will continue to engage with the community to ensure that the project optimises opportunities for local people and business.

The detailed design phase will start in January 2020 with construction tenders scheduled for September 2020 and construction due to commence in 2021.

As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

“The McGowan Government is supporting jobs and economic diversification in Kalgoorlie-Boulder through the Kalgoorlie City Centre project, providing more than $8 million in funding.

“Moving to detailed design stage is a significant step in turning the community’s vision into reality and delivering on the economic transformation of the city centre.

“The appointment of ASPECT Studios to undertake the detailed design work will bring the project to life.

“The project can help transform Kalgoorlie city centre through economic activation, attracting investment to the City and significant opportunities for Aboriginal employment and business participation.”

As stated by Mining and Pastoral Region MLC Kyle McGinn:

“I am really pleased to see the next stage of this project come to fruition as it has been something the community has been looking forward to and is keen to see reach completion.

“The State Government has stood by our $8 million commitment to this project and we will be seeing a huge amount of Aboriginal engagement and involvement that will give local people ownership over the project as well as great economic outcomes for local workers.

“I’ve always said that we need to get as much stimulation to the local economy out of State money as we can, and this project is going a long way to seeing those outcomes.”
