Tingha Gems Caravan Park will get an upgrade with the assistance of $150,000 in funding under the NSW Government’s COVID-19 stimulus program.
Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall welcomed the funding which will enhance facilities and the appeal of the regional tourist spot.
Mr Marshall said the funding would enhance Crown reserve’s facilities and the appeal of the accommodation venue.
“This $150,000 is great news for Tingha Gems Caravan Park and will help it live up to its name as a true rural tourism treasure,” Mr Marshall said.
“This stimulus funding will allow for upgrades to the amenities buildings and facilities to help improve the caravan park’s operations and encourage greater use by visitors.
“As part of the redevelopment tiling work, new toilets and cisterns will be provided for the park’s amenities block.
“The park caretaker’s residence will be restumped and refurbished with a new kitchen and air conditioning.
“Extra concrete slabs will also be installed to provide more caravan parking sites as well as potential lighting improvements within the grounds.
“I expect following these upgrades we will see more people chose the site as a cost-effective place to base themselves while they take in the sites and boutique shopping experiences that the Inverell Shire has to offer.”
Inverell Shire Council is in the process of taking on the role of Land Managers of the Tingha Gems Caravan Park.
Inverell Shire Mayor Paul Harmon said council had a vision of increasing the accommodation options available at the caravan park to provide visitors with a welcoming and comfortable stay.
“The Tingha Caravan Park is a vital community asset, thanks to its bush appeal and location right next to Tingha’s popular swimming hole,” Cr Harmon said.
“Under Council’s management, planning will be undertaken to expand the accommodation options available to visitors to the area.
“Recent infrastructure improvements at the park, such as a grey water system and fire protection have addressed health and safety matters, now it could benefit from having on-site cabins.
“This would open up Tingha to visitors that don’t travel with their own self-contained accommodation.”
Minister for Water, Property and Housing Melinda Pavey said the COVID-19 stimulus program was upgrading community infrastructure on Crown land while supporting regional jobs, tourism and local businesses.
“The NSW Government has announced almost $40 million in Spring stimulus spending for regional communities across the State to improve infrastructure including precious recreational facilities and help fight the economic and health impacts of COVID-19,” Minister Pavey said.
“Projects will create work for regional companies and tradies, and many will help bring in customers and much needed tourism for small businesses which have struggled with everything from floods, to fires to COVID this year.”
