Stolen car crashes at Nailsworth, South Australia

A man has been arrested after crashing a stolen car at Nailsworth this afternoon.

About 2.30pm on Monday 11 February, police in an unmarked patrol car spotted a stolen red Ford sedan on Hopetoun Avenue, Kilburn. Police did not pursue the car but kept it under observation and followed it as it turned onto Prospect Road to head south.

The stolen car was then followed east along Regency Road before it turned right onto Main North Road where police lost sight of the car in traffic.

Patrols continued to search the area and located the car a short time later abandoned at the corner of Main North Road and Cooper Street after it had crashed into the fence of a car yard.

Witnesses reported seeing a man run off from the car along Cooper Street where he began jumping fences. Patrols cordoned off the area and arrested him nearby.

The vehicle had been stolen from Morphett Vale on 31 January.

A 23-year-old man from Woodcroft is being interviewed by police and is likely to be charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle and driving in a dangerous manner.
