Stolen car crashes at Salisbury, South Australia

Police are at the scene of a crash at Salisbury where the driver has run off.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Waterloo Corner Road and Stewart Avenue, Salisbury just after 6am on Wednesday 3 November by reports a car had hit a tree.

The driver, who may have sustained facial injuries, was seen running off west along Waterloo Corner Road then towards the Salisbury Swimming Centre. He is described as of Aboriginal appearance, 178 cm tall, slim build, wearing a black t-shirt, dark trackpants and carrying a dark backpack.

The SUV was on its side and passersby managed to push it off the road, out of the way of traffic.

The silver Nissan X-Trail had just been reported stolen from a Parafield Gardens driveway about 5.45am. The owner had left the vehicle running while he ducked back inside to grab something and the car was gone.

It will be seized for forensic examination.

Police are searching the area for the driver with the assistance of Police Dog Cooper.
