Stolen car crashes at South Plympton, South Australia

Police have searched an area at Camden Park and South Plympton after a stolen car crashed through a fence and came to rest on the tram tracks.

Just before 5am on Thursday 24 January, patrols spotted a stolen Commodore sedan on Mabel Terrace but did not pursue it.

The car drove off and was located a short time later after it crashed through a fence at the end of Salisbury Terrace before coming to rest on the tram tracks.

The passenger, a 51-year-old man from Glandore was arrested at the scene while the driver ran off. A search of the area failed to locate him.

The passenger has been charged with illegal use and fail to truly answer and he has been bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on 4 March.

The car has been cleared from the tracks and tram services have resumed following an inspection by technicians.

Investigations are continuing.
