Stolen dirt bikes recovered and six arrested

Police have arrested six teens after they were caught with stolen dirt bikes in the northern suburbs today.

Just before 2pm, Thursday 24 November, PolAir was conducting a proactive flight in the northern suburbs when two riders on dirt bikes were spotted on Main North Road at Smithfield. PolAir followed the riders to the vicinity of Bentley and Smith Road at Blakeview where four additional bikes could be seen hidden under tree branches.

Patrols were directed to this area where they immediately arrested four teens and recovered four hidden dirt bikes. A fifth suspect fled on foot but was followed by PolAir and arrested by patrols a short distance away. Three of the four hidden bikes were stolen from a shed on a property at Uleybury overnight. The remaining three are suspected of being stolen.

A 19-year-old from Davoren Park, a 16 and an 18-year-old both from Munno Para, a 19-year-old from Burton and a 17-year-old from Evanston Park have all been charged with illegal use and all bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates and Youth Court on 6 January.

While patrols were dealing with the arrests, another bike rider approached but quickly drove off at speed after sighting police. PolAir followed the rider to an address in Davoren Park where patrols arrested him. The 17-year-old from Munno Para West has been charged with speeding, due care, unregistered, uninsured and unlicenced. He has been bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Youth Court on 6 January.

While at the Davoren Park address, patrols conducted a search and uncovered nine dirt bikes all suspected of having been stolen.

Investigations are continuing in relation to the Uleybury break-in and the 15 recovered stolen bikes and those arrested may face further charges.
