Stonnington businesses start to open up

The City of Stonnington welcomes the Victorian Government’s decision to re-open hospitality, retail and other parts of the economy from Tuesday 28 October.

City of Stonnington Chief Executive Officer, Ms Jacqui Weatherill, thanked the Stonnington community for their support in getting us here and encouraged everyone to support our re-opening businesses as much as possible.

“Tomorrow is a really big step for our businesses, community and residents as Melbourne kicks off our recovery,” said Ms Weatherill.

“This has been an especially challenging time for our businesses, who now need your support as they begin to re-open.

“Bars, cafes, restaurants, beauty & personal services and retail will start re-opening right across our Chapel Street Precinct, Glenferrie Road Malvern, High Street Armadale, Toorak Road South Yarra, Toorak Village and smaller shopping strips.

“Heading into summer, we’ll also see some outdoor dining initiatives such as our expanded footpath trading program that has allowed hospitality businesses to expand in front of neighbouring properties, roadside dining installations using parking bays where it is safe to do so and some really exciting pilot street closures at Greville Street, Prahran and Beatty Avenue, Armadale.

“Please help everyone by wearing a face covering and following guidance from businesses about queuing and social distancing. If you’re heading out for something to eat or drink, it’s probably worth calling ahead to seeing if you can make a booking.

“Thank you to everyone who has helped us get to this step. If you can, it’s time to treat yourself at your favourite local – you’ve earned it,” added Ms Weatherill.

Information about road closures to encourage additional outdoor dining space

We’re piloting two road closures to support Stonnington’s hospitality businesses as part of our plan to open up safe on-street dining to get people out and enjoying the delicious dining experiences that Stonnington has to offer.

Businesses will have COVID safe plans and traffic management will be in place to direct vehicles elsewhere.

Walk down, support local businesses, stay safe by wearing a face mask and following guidance from businesses on queueing and social distancing.
