Storm damage and possible water contamination

Following the recent storm there are many trees and branches down throughout Maroondah.

Our crews are working quickly to clean up, in the first instance responding to property damage, blocked roads and clearing footpaths. The clean up of all our parks and reserves will take many days, so please be patient and stay safe.

Powerlines are also down throughout Maroondah. Do not approach or attempt to move them. Authorised power company crews will be clearing and fixing these as quickly as possible. For any power queries please contact your supplier.

Boil water notice

Yarra Valley Water has issued a “boil water” notice for suburbs across Maroondah. The power outages have resulted in some water entering the drinking water supply that has not been treated to the usual standard.

As a precaution, Yarra Valley Water is advising their customers to bring tap water to a rolling boil before using it for:

  • drinking
  • brushing your teeth
  • food preparation
  • preparing baby formula
  • making ice
  • bathing infants

Yarra Valley Water is sharing this information across a range of channels including mainstream media, social media and SMS.

The contaminated water may cause gastro-like symptoms if consumed. If you experience any of these symptoms, please contact your doctor.

An estimated 250,000 households are affected by the issue, which is expected to be resolved later today (Friday 28 August).
