A wild storm inflicted widespread damage on the town of Moree last night.
The homes and vehicles of many local residents were impacted by the strong winds and heavy rain that saw the NSW SES Moree Unit receiving 43 jobs over a 24-hour period.
Moree received 136 millilitres of rain during the weather event, which left much of the town without power throughout the night and into today.
Requests for assistance included calls related to shops and homes with leaking roofs; large trees threatening to fall on residential properties; fallen trees blocking roads and access to properties; and damaged roofs.
In one case a timber and iron roof was reportedly blown from a home, while another resident requested help after finding themselves wading through ankle deep water in their living room.
Businesses in the town’s main street were hit particularly hard by the storm – with trees down at the local pub and retail shops flooded with water. Out the front of one store a tree had fallen onto two parked cars.
Power outages resulted from large trees falling onto powerlines.
