Strangulation and bodily harm charges at Cape Tribulation

Detectives from the Cairns Criminal Investigation Branch have arrested a man following an incident on Cape Tribulation Road, Cape Tribulation on Wednesday night.

Police allege the man has gained entry to a residence on Cape Tribulation Road, around 11.30pm on Wednesday before punching and strangling a 45-year-old Cape Tribulation woman.

It’s alleged the man walked to a nearby residence where he assaulted a 48-year-old Cape Tribulation man by choking him and striking his head on the ground multiple times.

It’s further alleged the man used a plank of wood to smash through a door to another residence causing considerable damage to the property before being confronted by the 52-year-old male resident. It’s alleged the man made threats that he would return with weapons before he fled on foot.

Mossman police attended the scene and the two injured people were transported to hospital.

The woman sustained serious injuries to her face and neck, whilst the 45-year-old man was knocked unconscious and sustained life-threatening injuries to his head and upper body.

Police located the man asleep at a nearby shack and took him into custody.

A 48-year-old Cape Tribulation man was charged with four counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one charge each of choking, suffocation and strangulation; acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm; and burglary and wilful damage.

The man was known to the victims and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on October 18.
