Strategic Capital Works Program to deliver long-term benefits
Baw Baw Shire Council is building for the future with a $29.6 million Capital Works Program among the highlights of Council’s adopted 2019/20 Budget.
Council’s extensive 2019/20 Capital Works Program is the first stage of the broader Long Term Infrastructure Plan (LTIP) which lays out infrastructure priorities over the next decade to ensure Council’s capital works delivery benefits residents for generations to come.
The infrastructure spend comprises of $7.3 million in progressing key strategic projects, $12.2 million in infrastructure renewal, and $10.1 million in general infrastructure works.
The following key strategic projects are among those to be delivered in 2019/20:
- A $1.8 million investment in female-friendly pavilions in Darnum, Buln Buln and Hallora;
- A $1.8 million Early Learning Centre in Trafalgar;
- A $350,000 extension of the Drouin Early Learning Centre;
- A $700,000 upgrade of Neerim South Oval;
- A $600,000 upgrade of four netball courts at Drouin Recreation Reserve; and
- The $1.2 million Drouin Civic Park redevelopment, as per masterplan.
Design will also begin for a multi-use stadium at Trafalgar Recreation Reserve, a Community Hub for Drouin, the Warragul Civic Precinct Master Plan, and indoor stadiums at Drouin and Warragul.
A record 248 submissions were received on the Draft Budget and the Capital Works Program responds to submission themes that emphasised the need for Council to improve or maintain the quality of its existing buildings, facilities, footpaths, roads, bridges and open spaces.
In 2019/20, Council will replace more than 1,400 metres of kerbing, repair more than 20,000 square metres of pavement, undertake an extensive re-linemarking, guardrail and signage replacement program, replace Standfields Road in Poowong East, install new and improved township entry, parking and traffic signage, and replace and renew public toilets and outdoor furniture.
