Strategy for events in Central Goldfields

As our Shire’s biggest event – Energy Breakthrough – is well underway Maryborough this week, we’re calling on the community to provide input into the future of events in the Central Goldfields.

Annually our Shire attracts almost 50 events every year, with 15 of these being key events which draw visitors from far and wide to our community.

The purpose of the Events Strategy is to: explore ways to attract new events; get clearer on our role in events; find ways to reduce the red tape for those who run events; get clearer around our venues and their requirements; and understand how we can provide/source financial support for events.

Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Cr Liesbeth Long said events were a way for our community to connect with one another and feel a sense of belonging.

“In talking with our community through the community plan process, we heard that events are particularly important to our smaller townships as well.

“Due to resource and budget limitations, we are not able to run all events in our Shire – we rely on our community groups and organisations to support us with this – but there are ways that we can support them.

“Sometimes the permits associated with running events can be onerous so through the development of the Events Strategy we’re hoping we can reduce the red tape and make it much easier for community to navigate this process.

“We also know that sometimes we don’t have the right venues and locations to run really big events – so we need to understand what the gaps are.

“To give us the best chance of developing an Events Strategy that is reflective of what our community wants and needs, we need you to share your ideas on what events you’d like to see here.”
