Streamlining coronavirus test results

Sarah Courtney,Minister for Health

Keeping Tasmanians safe and secure is our highest priority as we continue to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

As we expand testing, it is important that people are advised of their negative result as soon as possible, this will help lessen anxiety.

Tasmanians will now be informed of negative COVID-19 test results by text message from the Tasmanian Health Service.

This will streamline the process and also ensure that we are expanding our systems as we significantly increase our testing.

This is important as we continue to expand testing criteria across Tasmania, and will allow us to deliver these results in a much more efficient manner.

This will include the testing of the many health care workers who will be tested before returning to work at the North West Regional and North West Private hospitals.

People should also ensure they continue to observe isolation instructions given to them at the time of the test.

If they do not have a mobile number or opt-out of the text message, we will call them on the number they provided when being tested.

The message will show up as being sent by Tas Health and the message will include their full name and the date of testing for the person.

Tasmanians can be sure this is a legitimate message and the message details will help reduce confusion if multiple family members have been tested.

Thank you to the many Tasmanians who have phoned their GP or the public health hotline to book an appointment. It is important for the health and wellbeing of our whole community that Tasmanians remain vigilant.
