Streamlining planning and building

A Tasmanian business has been awarded the contract to deliver an online portal that will reduce red tape for building industry practitioners across the State.

Hobart-based Geometry Pty Ltd will develop the new PlanBuild Tasmania system as a single portal for the electronic lodgement and processing of all planning, building and plumbing applications state-wide.

PlanBuild Tasmania is an initiative of the Hodgman majority Liberal Government that has been developed in consultation with industry and local government. It will streamline many of the regulatory red tape burdens currently encountered when undertaking development in Tasmania.

It will include an enquiry function to assist members of the public and small business operators to identify the specific legislative and regulatory requirements that apply to specific sites.

Users will also be able to track the development process through an online user dashboard that will integrate the various stages of a development, including planning, building and plumbing.

PlanBuild Tasmania, named by the Built Environment team of staff and students at TasTAFE, will be released for public use in stages over two years with preliminary functions expected to go live in the second half of 2020.

The total value of the PlanBuild portal development contract is $3.47 million.

Tasmania’s housing sector remains the strongest in the nation according to the latest ABS Building Approvals data and this new system of red tape reduction will contribute to that ongoing growth.

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government’s priority is jobs and, with the fastest growing economy in Australia, our building and construction sector continues to go from strength to strength.
