Strengthening community safety in Moe

Community members and businesses have welcomed the installation of 35 new CCTV cameras in the Moe CBD Precinct.

Latrobe City Council received a $156,335 Public Safety Infrastructure grant from the Department of Justice and Community Safety to deliver the project.

The cameras are located across the town centre and are supported by an upgraded system that feeds live footage back to the Moe Police Station.

The areas covered by footage include:

  • Moe Service Centre
  • George Street
  • Moore Street
  • Albert Street
  • Moe Town Hall

Latrobe City Council Mayor, Cr Sharon Gibson said the new CCTV system would help to improve safety and security within the CBD.

“Our community deserves to feel safe when shopping, socialising, working or accessing important services in our towns,” Cr Gibson said.

“This system will act as a potential crime deterrent while also helping to detect crime in action and any potential anti-social behaviour.

“This system has already helped Police in their duties and has led to a change in behaviour.”

Council worked in consultation with Victoria Police and local business and community members to determine the most suitable placement of the camera system.
