Strike Force Raptor seize five illicit firearms and ammunition; man charged in Punchbowl

A man will face court today charged with firearms offences after Strike Force Raptor seized five illegal firearms during the search of a home in Sydney’s south west.

As part of ongoing targeting of the activities of criminal networks operating in NSW, officers from the Criminal Groups Squad’s Strike Force Raptor, assisted by the Public Order and Riot Squad, executed a search warrant at a home at Punchbowl about 2.40pm yesterday (Friday 22 November 2019).

During the search, police seized a Leader Dynamics T2 MK5 semi-automatic assault rifle with two loaded magazines, a Colt M4 Custom Tactical semi-automatic rifle with two loaded magazines, a revolver, two loaded Glock 23 pistols, ammunition, and various other items.

The firearms will undergo extensive forensic and ballistic examination.

A 69-year-old man was arrested at the home and taken to Bankstown Police Station.

He was charged with possess more than three unregistered firearms, two counts of possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, two counts of possess unregistered prohibited firearm, two counts of not keep prohibited firearm safely, three counts of possess unauthorised pistol, three counts of not keep pistol safely, possess defaced firearm, and possess ammunition without holding a licence.

The man has been refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 23 November 2019).

Investigations are continuing.
