Strike Force Sweetenham officers have arrested four people and seized two stolen motorbikes as part of a crackdown on property crime across Sydney.
Throughout August 2026, police initiated investigations into multiple break and enters and motor vehicle thefts targeting liquor stores, other businesses and residential properties across the wider Sydney area.
Following these incidents, strike force officers – with assistance from officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command, Leichhardt Police Area Command, PolAir, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, and the Dog Unit – commenced Operation Prevention and Disruption.
The operation ran between Wednesday 26 August 2026 and Thursday 27 August 2026 across Sydney and resulted in four people arrested and charged, two stolen motorbikes recovered, and 11 traffic infringement notices issued.
Incidents of note include,
- About 9pm on Wednesday, police were patrolling the Annandale area when they attempted to stop a man allegedly riding a stolen motorbike on Bridge Road. Initial checks indicate the Honda motorbike had been reported stolen from a property on Levy Street, Wolli Creek, on Sunday 9 August 2026. When police directed the rider to stop, he allegedly failed to do so and attempted to ride from officers; however, he lost control of the vehicle and attempted to leave on foot. Police arrested the man – aged 18 – nearby shortly after before taking him to Day Street Police Station where he was charged with drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, and never licensed person drive vehicle on road. He was refused bail and appeared before Downing Centre Local Court the following day. The man is next due to appear before the same court on Thursday 10 September 2026.
- About 12.20am on Thursday, police attended a home in Hebersham following an investigation into reports a motorbike had been stolen from Surry Hills, on Wednesday 19 August 2026. On arrival, police located the vehicle on the property before arresting a 16-year-old boy. He was taken to Mt Druitt Police Station where he was charged with robbery in company, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, robbery armed with offensive weapon, dishonestly obtain property by deception, and shoplifting value less than or equal to $2000. The teenager was refused bail and appeared before a children’s court on the same. He is next due to appear before the same court on Thursday 3 September 2026.
