Strike Force Vulcan Fire Charges – Camillo

Strike Force Vulcan detectives have charged a man in relation to fires in Camillo on Thursday, 6 February 2020.

It is alleged between 6.15pm and 6.30pm, the man ignited four fires in the Camillo area. The alleged incidents occurred at:-

• Verge area and tree at two locations on Amanda Drive;

• Furniture set out for a verge-side collection on O’Sullivan Drive; and

• The verge and a tree on the corner of Banksia Street and O’Sullivan Drive at the Westfield Reserve.

The flames from the fires engulfed the nearby area and a large amount of smoke enveloped neighbouring houses. Department of Fire and Emergency Services attended and extinguished the fires.

The 26-year-old man from Camillo has been charged with three counts of ‘Wilfully light or cause to be lit a fire likely to injure or damage’.

The maximum penalty for this offence is 20 years imprisonment.

He is next due to appear before the Armadale Magistrates Court on Tuesday 21 April 2020.
