A woman who allegedly ransacked four Sunnyhills homes while the owners were away on holiday is now facing a slew of charges.
On Sunday Police received reports of a burglary at a Fordyce Avenue address where a vehicle along with a number of luxury handbags and other items were stolen.
Inspector Rod Honan, Counties Manukau East Area Commander, says the home was allegedly targeted sometime between 28-30 August.
“On Monday, Police were made aware of the stolen vehicle spotted travelling in the Ōtāhuhu area.
“The Police Eagle helicopter was able to quickly track the vehicle to an address in Mount Wellington where the sole occupant was taken into custody.”
Inspector Honan says a search of the vehicle located a significant quantity of suspected stolen property, including luxury branded handbags, a bank card, jewellery and other personal items.
“Police also located burglary implements including bolt cutters, gloves, screwdrivers and other tools, along with a quantity of suspected methamphetamine.”
He says the investigation team were also making enquiries into other burglaries in the area earlier that month, particularly in Manor Park.
Inspector Honan says Police executed a number of search warrants, at Bucklands Beach and Mt Eden addresses and a Mount Roskill storage unit where several items of interest were located.
“Enquiries remain ongoing; however we are pleased to be able to lay a significant number of charges in relation to this burglary.
“It’s great to deliver a swift and positive resolution for all the victims.”
He says Police estimate the value of the items taken to be in excess of $200,000.
A 26-year-old woman has been remanded in custody and will appear in Manukau District Court on 17 September.
She is facing 15 charges, including receives property, unlawfully in building, dangerous driving and possession of methamphetamine.
Inspector Honan says enquiries remain ongoing and Police are not ruling out further charges or arrests in relation to these burglaries.
