Severe weather and flood warnings are current for parts of north and north-east Victoria as a powerful cold front brings strong wind gusts, heavy rain and possible thunderstorms on Thursday.
A severe weather warning for heavy rainfall for parts of East Gippsland and north-east Victoria is current with possible six-hourly rainfall totals of 15 – 40 mm, and localised totals of 40 – 60 mm possible. The region of highest risk for heavy rain and possible thunderstorm activity is the far north-east of Victoria, close to the NSW border.
A flood watch for north-east Victoria is current, with moderate to major flooding possible in the Upper Murray, Mitta Mitta, Kiewa, Ovens and King rivers. Rain falling on snow will lead to snowmelt and increase the runoff into river catchments.
Minor flood warnings for the King and Kiewa rivers and Seven and Castle creeks are current. Minor flooding is expected to occur on Thursday afternoon.
The Bureau is monitoring the situation closely and will update its forecasts and warnings regularly.
