Stronger Screening for NDIS Workers

Legislation passed today will see stronger and nationally consistent screening processes for all new workers employed by National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) registered providers by 1 July 2020.

The NDIS Worker Clearance Bill will protect and prevent people with disability from experiencing harm arising from poor quality or unsafe supports under the NDIS.

The legislation will apply to workers participating in NDIS work in a risk assessed role when they are employed by an NDIS Registered Service Provider.

The NDIS has represented a major change to how Australians living with disability receive funding and how services are delivered, with this bill providing protection for some of the Territory communities more vulnerable people.

As stated by Minister for Disabilities, Natasha Fyles:

“People living with disabilities in the Northern Territory have the right to be safe and protected in our community.

“The NDIS allows Territorians living with disability to have control over their lives and access to high quality services.”
