Students celebrate German culture at Bendigo Art Gallery

Bendigo Art Gallery’s popular German Day is on again and will feature a performance of traditional German song ‘Das Fliegerlied’ by Spring Gully Primary School students.

More than 200 students from Bendigo Senior Secondary College, Bendigo South East College, East Loddon P-12 College, Crusoe College and Spring Gully Primary School will participate in the day’s program, including performances by students, tours, gallery trails and art activities.

The program is the initiative of the Calder Regional Network of the Association of German Teachers of Victoria and Bendigo Art Gallery.

Program highlights include:

  • Student performances including poetry, dancing and singing
  • German language trails focusing on the Gallery’s collection
  • German art activities

Gallery Education Officer Helen Attrill said this was the fourth year German Day had been run at the gallery.

“It’s a great opportunity to learn about German culture through art and architecture in the surrounds of Bendigo Art Gallery and Bendigo’s 19th century architecture,” Ms Attrill said.

“Bendigo Art Gallery is pleased to be able to work with local schools and teachers to help students learning a second language to apply their skills and bring the language to life.”
