Successful prosecution following serious dog attacks

Melton City Council has successfully prosecuted a person on multiple offences including those relating to three separate dog attacks causing serious injury.

The case against Melton resident, Kristy Monique Decker, 43, was heard at Sunshine Magistrates’ Court on Friday 18 February.

Decker was found guilty for the charges of dogs not under effective control in a public place, multiple unregistered animals (cats and dogs), and excessive number of animals kept at an address without permit.

The charges were connected to three serious dog attacks on people causing serious injury between August 2020 and April 2021. In one incident a victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being set upon by three of Deckers’ rottweilers.

The four dogs involved across the three attacks were extremely aggressive and seized by Council Rangers to maintain the safety of the community.

Decker was found guilty and convicted on all 32 charges brought before the court.

The Magistrate ordered her to pay $76,899.14 which included penalties and Council costs.

She was also disqualified from owning or being in charge or control of a dog for a period of 10 years.

Decker failed to appear in court and the matter was heard in her absence.
