Throughout the month of April, Tassal Tassie Salmon is encouraging Australians to switch it for salmon when enjoying a meal on a Sunday. Exciting new research is demonstrating that Aussies are looking to be inspired by healthy and delicious recipes that encourage them to cook in new ways and make the most out of their salmon.

Tassal has teamed up with celebrity chef and co-owner of The Depot Cafe in Bondi, Guy Turland, and resident dietitian, Susie Burrell to bring the vibrancy of Tassie salmon to life by creating dynamic, yet easy to execute recipes the whole family will enjoy.

Guy recently travelled to Tasmania to draw inspiration from the local landscapes, waters, and flavours, bringing this into new recipes using fresh Tassal Tassie Salmon. During his stay, Guy took the opportunity to cook alongside the picturesque Derwent River on Cornelian Bay, where he prepared a Leatherwood Honey and Miso Glazed Tassal Salmon dish – the perfect dish for when you want something a little more special that is still quick and easy.

Guy then went high in the hills above Battery Point, in West Hobart to create a wholesome Tassal Salmon Lasagna, perfect for meal prepping your week ahead, or as a winter warmer the whole family will enjoy during those cooler months.

“Being in Tassie, surrounded by these picturesque views and fresh, locally sourced ingredients, has inspired my cooking. I’ve always enjoyed cooking with salmon, but being here with Tassal has brought on a whole new appreciation. I love cooking with Tassal salmon as it’s responsibly sourced in Tassie, Australia’s heartland for fresh produce and delicious salmon,” Guy said.

Leading dietitian and Tassal Ambassador, Susie Burrell, will also be releasing two new salmon recipes over the month of April.

Susie has always been passionate about promoting taste and nutritional content for families, which is why her new recipes cater to any meal or occasion, including a brunch menu option for Easter, when people may be looking to limit their red meat consumption.

Susie says, “when it comes to preparing delicious and unique meals – whether it be for a sit down lunch or a snack on the go – salmon can’t be overlooked for its nutritional value, versatility in cooking, and great taste.

“People often think of salmon as a luxury item, however salmon is a great everyday source of protein that offers essential vitamins and loads of the good omega-3 fats to promote health and wellbeing. Because of this, it’s the perfect nutritional boost for your family, and the ideal addition to the weekly menu!”

“I have developed two recipes; one will stretch your salmon protein further, giving you multiple meals out of the one recipe – perfect for families who like to prepare meals and don’t want the hassle of cooking after a busy work day. The other, to give you a simple option for brunch,” Susie adds.

Tassal saw an opportunity to break the cycle of the same meals each week, and wants to inspire new occasions through delicious and nutritious meals using salmon as the main ingredient. Across the four Sundays in April, Tassal is suggesting you add these recipes to your meal plans:

  • Sunday 2 April – Guy Turland’s Tassal Salmon Lasagne for a family of six.
  • Sunday 9 April (Easter Sunday) – Susie Burrell’s Simple Sunday Salmon Brunch – Dark Rye with Tassal Smoked Salmon for two.
  • Sunday 23 April – Guy Turland’s Tasmanian Leatherwood Honey and Miso Glazed Tassal Salmon Fillets for two.
  • Sunday 30 April – Susie Burrell’s Tassal Salmon & Roasted Veg Tray Bake with a Creamy Leek & Chive Sauce for a family of four.


The Sundays are for Salmon campaign comes as new survey research* is released, allowing us to climb into the trolley for an insiders look at Australia’s current grocery shopping habits.

  • When it comes to preparing dinner for individuals, family and friends, 90.59% of people surveyed said they prefer to cook with 10 or less ingredients.
  • When asked what ranked highest in priority when it came to general grocery shopping, taste ranked highest, followed closely by quality and sale/price (from the options of sale/price, price per serve, taste, quality and stretching a serving size across multiple meals).

Salmon specific:

  • 58% of people advised they prefer to pan fry their salmon, followed by those who like to bake it (41.3%).
  • Dinner was by far the most common meal where Salmon was consumed (88.8%).
  • Additionally, at least 26% of people surveyed** said it’s very important to buy food products that are high in protein, like salmon.
