Supercars to help put Tassie tourism in fast lane

Sarah Courtney,Liberal Member for Bass

Tasmanians are getting revved up once again to see the best Australian Racing has to offer at this weekend’s Supercars event at Symmons Plains Raceway.

The Tyrepower Tasmania SuperSprint will once again shine a spotlight on Tasmania, with about 975,000 people set watch the event on television.

The SuperSprint will attract more than 50,000 fans trackside, including around 8000 visitors from interstate.

Visitors stay for an average of four nights, and will inject about $6.4 million into Tasmania’s visitor economy, supporting local accommodation and hospitality venues. This is great news for cafes, restaurants and hotels across Northern Tasmania.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is growing Tasmania’s visitor economy sensibly and sustainably, and hosting events like the Supercars at Symmons Plains adds to the large range of events and festivals held in our State every year.

This event comes a week after Derby held the Enduro MTB World Series last weekend, and demonstrates that our Plan to encourage visitors to spend more time in regional areas is working.
