Support for PrideFEST 2020

PrideFEST 2020: 14 to 28 November

In 2019 the WA Minister for Health, Hon. Roger Cook approved the participation of the WA Department of Health in 2020 Perth PRIDE Parade.

Due to COVID-19 and the challenging logistics of such an event, PRIDE WA have cancelled this year’s parade.

WA Health will continue to support the LGBTIQ+ communities through the Western Australian Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex Health Strategy 2019-2024, and look to the 2021 parade and the opportunity to show our support on the streets of Perth.

WA Health will also acknowledge and support communities with the availability of rainbow lanyards and wrist bands available during PrideFEST (14-28 November) for Department of Health staff who wish to show their support.

PrideFEST is an annual celebration that commemorates the march in 1989 to the Western Australian State Parliament to demand the decriminalisation of homosexuality. This was achieved through the Law Reform (Decriminalisation of Sodomy) Act 1989 which came into effect in 1990, followed by further comprehensive Lesbian and Gay Law Reforms in 2002.
