Supporting Australian writing and publishing

More than $22 million has been paid to over 13,100 authors, publishers and illustrators through the Lending Rights schemes in 2019-20.

The Australian Government’s Public and Educational Lending Right schemes make payments in recognition of the free use of books in Australian public and educational libraries. This supports authors, illustrators and publishers to continue writing and sharing stories with Australian audiences.

Claims can be submitted and tracked online using the Lending Rights Portal. Submissions of new title claims close on 31 March each year and books must be claimed for within five years from the year of publication to be eligible for payment.
