Supporting Canberra artists to create, develop and promote

Canberra is home to a flourishing creative sector, and investing in diverse projects helps build capability, grows career opportunities and ultimately promotes our city as the arts destination that it is.

Over $500,000 has been awarded to fifteen Canberra artists ranging from playwrights and punk rock to choreographers and contemporary art, in addition to supporting seven local screen projects spanning animation, gaming and films.

Recurrent $5 to $50k Arts Activities funding is open twice a year and provides funding to Canberra-based artists and arts groups for one-off projects, the applications are peer assessed. Separately Screen Canberra and artsACT have awarded funds as part of the ACT Screen Arts Fund (ACTSAF).

Minister for the Arts Tara Cheyne congratulated the successful applicants.

“Arts funding helps to support and develop the capacity and capability of artists and creative practitioners in the ACT, including recipients from diverse backgrounds and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists.”

“As the sector continues its recovery, it’s important to support arts activities and projects that will travel well beyond our ACT borders.”

“The new and exciting projects receiving funding touch on topics such as social justice, dementia and our place in the digital world.”

The next round of $5 to $50k Arts Activities funding is now open, more information can be found online. Applications will close at 5pm on Sunday, 31 July 2022.
