Supporting our Tasmanian literary creatives

Elise Archer, Minister for the Arts

Twenty Tasmanian literary creatives have been selected to participate in the Tasmanian Writers and Illustrators Mentorship Program, developed by the Australian Society of Authors, with the support of our Government through Arts Tasmania.

Our Government recognises that navigating the publishing process can be challenging for those new to the industry and this 12-month professional mentorship program will provide a unique opportunity for each of the 20 Tasmanian authors and illustrators to develop industry networks, gain insight into the publishing environment, and learn from experienced mentors.

The successful participants cover a range of creative mediums including fiction, young adult literature, poetry, and graphic novel illustration, and were selected by the assessors from a pool of over 100 applications.

Participants will be nurtured through the publishing process, giving them the best chance of success in preparing their manuscripts for publication, and providing invaluable guidance while also strengthening local industry connections to the national publishing sector.

As Minister for the Arts, I congratulate each of the mentorship recipients, and thank the Australian Society of Authors (ASA) for their targeted support for Tasmania’s local literary sector.

I look forward to reading more Tasmanian stories from talented and emerging Tasmanian writers over the coming years.
