Supporting theatre during COVID-19

World Theatre Day is a chance for Australians to think of different ways to support our performing arts industry.

The nation’s leading creative and cultural organisations are calling for patrons to convert tickets for cancelled events into donations instead of asking for refunds as the sector faces the ongoing effects of COVID-19.

Australians can also show support by purchasing vouchers for future performances and exhibitions to keep the cash flow moving.

World Theatre Day has been marked on 27 March since 1961 by the International Theatre Institute, but never in that time have the performing arts faced such challenges.

Here in Australia cancellations are affecting tens of thousands of people who work in the live entertainment industry—including artists, players, promoters, venue managers, ushers, box office staff and food and beverage providers.
