Surf clubs encouraged to apply for cash splash

NSW Surf Life Saving Clubs are being encouraged to apply for their share of $5.25 million in funding for the upgrade, restoration, or construction of facilities.

Nationals Member for Coffs Harbour, Gurmesh Singh, said applications are now open for the Surf Club Facility Program with grants of up to $1 million up for grabs.

“We already know we’re in for a hot summer, and it’s critical our surf clubs have what they need to protect the influx of beachgoers in the coming months,” said Mr Singh, Shadow Minister for Tourism, Emergency Services and the North Coast.

“Our local volunteer surf lifesavers are incredibly dedicated and committed to keeping our community safe and any support we can give them is extremely important.

Nationals Member for Myall Lakes, Tanya Thompson, said the program is about making sure surf clubs have the resources they need, including facilities that are modern, accessible, and fit for purpose.

“This funding will continue to build on the enormous investment made by the former Nationals Government, so I would encourage Myall Lakes clubs to apply.”

Applicants can apply for various funding streams, with Category 1 for facility improvements under $100,000 and Categories 2 and 3 for larger construction projects up to and above $500,000.

Applications for Category 1 close Monday, December 11, and applications for Categories 2 and 3 will close on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
