Surf Coast Community Arts Calendar winners announced

The community delighted in being able to come together in art for the 2023 Surf Coast Community Arts Calendar Exhibition launch, and celebrate the 12 successful artists at Anglesea Art Space last Friday.

Works by 100 artists were in the running for inclusion in next year’s calendar, with a judging panel selecting the following as winners:

  • Emilia Bennett – Point Addis – YOUTH (watercolour)
  • Archie Sullivan – Sunset Boxing on our Land – CHILD (collage)
  • Tony Digger Gilson – Bunyip – 3D (carved sculpture)
  • Daniela Rodriguez – Impermanence – 2D (photograph
  • Clancy Morrisey – Peace Dove – CHILD (collage)
  • Shane Jacobsen – The Joyful Spinner – 2D (mixed media)
  • Kim Layton – Winter Solstice Swim – 2D (pastel)
  • Pat McKenzie – Aireys’ Cliffs – 2D (watercolour)
  • Marion Smith – Blue Gum – 3D (sterling silver)
  • Bridie Murphy – A Quiet Time – 2D (watercolour)
  • Peter Day – GasBoy is the Nervous Type – 3D (Found Object Sculpture)
  • Meaghan Shelton – Self Made Woman – 2D (acrylic)

Surf Coast Shire Cr Mike Bodsworth thanked all entrants who submitted a piece in the annual calendar competition, and congratulated the winners.

“There is a wonderful selection of works encompassing collage, jewellery, watercolour, found-object sculpture, photography and wood-carving,” he said.

“I encourage community members and visitors to view the exhibition at Anglesea Art Space. While there, please cast a People’s Choice vote to help determine the piece that will land the cover of next year’s calendar.”

People are able to view the exhibition and vote in-person at Anglesea Art Space, or online via surfcoastartstrail.com.au.

Anglesea Art Space is located 2/103 Great Ocean Road. The exhibition is open Thursday to Sunday 10am to 4pm until 29 October. On 30 October, it is open from 10am to 2pm.

The People’s Choice winner will be announced Wednesday 2 November 2022.
