Three men have been charged following an investigation into the supply of prohibited drugs after detectives seized nearly $200,000 cash, GBL, MDMA and ice in Surry Hills.
In August 2019, investigators from Surry Hills Region Enforcement Squad (RES) established Strike Force Korina to investigate the supply of prohibited drugs, mainly gamma-butyrolactone (GBL) and methylamphetamine (ice), across the Sydney CBD.
Following extensive inquiries, strike force investigators, with assistance from Operation ODIN, executed two search warrants at a unit in Surry Hills and a storage unit at Ultimo from 9am yesterday (Wednesday 26 February 2020).
During the searches, officers seized $197,890 cash, approximately two litres of GBL, about 28g of MDMA, an amount of methylamphetamine and equipment consistent with the supply of prohibited drugs.
Two men – aged 51 and 28 – were arrested at the unit and taken to Surry Hills Police Station.
The older man was charged with 16 offences including;
- Supply prohibited drug (x5)
- Supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity x7)
- Supply prohibited drug (commercial quantity x3)
- Deal in proceeds of crime, money/property
Police will allege the man was involved in the supply of more than 1.7L of GBL between October and November 2019.
It will be further alleged he was involved in the supply of MDMA and methylamphetamine.
The Surry Hills man was refused bail and will appear at Central Local Court today (Thursday 27 February 2020).
The younger man was charged with three counts of possess prohibited drug.
He was granted conditional bail to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 19 March 2020.
A 21-year-old man, who was also located at the unit, was issued with a Court Attendance Notice for found on/entering/leaving drug premises.
He is due to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 19 March 2020.
Investigations under Strike Force Korina are continuing.
