Surveys open for Townsville parks and open spaces

Townsville City Council encourages the community to have their say on future upgrades of Mount Louisa’s Crestbrook Drive open space and Vincent’s Cambridge Park.

The consultations are the latest Council has announced through the Have Your Say platform to understand the features residents use and what they would like to see included in future upgrades at parks and open spaces.

Deputy Mayor Mark Molachino said it was important the community had a chance to be actively involved in the design of the city’s open spaces.

“This financial year, we have asked the community to have their say on 19 parks and open spaces across the Townsville region,” Cr Molachino said.

“Council maintains more than 350 parks, and these parks and open spaces must reflect what the community wants.

“Each of the Have Your Say surveys are different and focused on the individual parks and open spaces.

“For example, while the playground equipment at Cambridge Park was recently upgraded, the current Have Your Say is asking the community what other facilities they would like to see there.

“Meanwhile, the survey for Crestbrook Drive open space wants to find out from residents which of the playground options would best suit the needs of users of the recreational area.”

Cr Molachino has encouraged the community to take a few moments out of their day to go online and fill out the Have Your Say survey.

“Council values the community’s feedback on all of the open space projects, and it’s important residents play an active role in helping to design these parks to best fit their needs,” Cr Molachino said.

“Parks and open spaces help improve recreational opportunities for residents and visitors, promote child development through play and increase community inclusivity.”

Residents have until 19 April 2022 to complete the Cambridge Park survey and 29 April 2022 to complete the Crestbrook Drive open space survey.

Both are available now on Council’s Have Your Say website.
