A man had been charged after leading police on a high-speed pursuit across Goulburn this morning.
About 12am (Sunday 9 August 2026), police were patrolling the Goulburn area, when they have attempted to stop a Holden sedan on Union Street.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed officers attached to The Hume Police District commenced a pursuit.
The pursuit continued throughout the Goulburn CBD during which the Holden allegedly reached speeds of 125km/h in 60km/h signposted speed zones.
While in pursuit, police successfully deployed road spikes on Marys Mount Road; however, the car continued to drive on the Holden’s rims.
The Holden continued to travel around the Goulburn area before driving through Grafton Street Park onto Grafton Street and falling down onto a nearby abandoned train line.
Police continued to follow the Holden as it travelled down the train line before coming to stop near Sydney Road where the driver left the vehicle and attempted to run into nearby bushland.
Following a foot pursuit the alleged driver – a 35-year-old man – was arrested nearby and taken to Goulburn Police Station.
During the arrest, police allegedly located and seized a backpack containing drug paraphernalia which will undergo a forensic examination.
The man – who police will allege was driving with a suspended learner’s permit – was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive at speed and drive, licence suspended.
He was refused bail and appeared before Bail Division Local Court 3 today, where he was further refused bail to appear before Goulburn Local Court on Wednesday 19 August 2026.
