A drawing of Santa lazing in the Esplanade Lagoon has won the Cairns Regional Council Christmas e-Card competition.
Winning artist 12-year-old Regan Cini joined Deputy Mayor Terry James and category winners Claire Dore (under 5s) and Jasper Bramham (6-9 years) on Sunday to officially switch on the Esplanade Christmas tree.
In perfect timing with the start of school holidays, the winners received a prize pack of family passes to local attractions in addition to the privilege of switching on the lights.
The theme of this year’s competition was “Celebrating Christmas Cairns style – Happy and Hot” leading to a raft of entries featuring creative ways Far Northerners enjoy the festive season in the tropical heat.
As the official Council e-Card, Regan’s design will be sent to recipients around the country bearing best wishes from Council.
