A Sydney man was sentenced to an 11-month Intensive Correction Order by the NSW Local Court yesterday (30 September, 2026) for threatening to kill an Australian high office holder and for multiple weapons offences.
The AFP’s National Security Investigations (NSI) team began an investigation into reports of threatening phone calls directed towards an Australian high office holder in February, 2026.
In February 2026, investigators executed a search warrant at a Macquarie Fields home and seized three gel blasters, a pair of metal handcuffs and electronic devices.
The man, 56, previously pled guilty to the following offences:
- One count of using a carriage service to threaten to kill, contrary to section 474.15(1) of the Criminal Code (Cth);
- Two counts of possessing an unauthorised firearm, contrary to section 7(1) of the Firearms Act (NSW);
- One count of possessing a shortened firearm without authority, contrary to section 61(1)(b) of the Firearms Act (NSW); and
- One count of possessing a prohibited weapon without permit, contrary to section 7(1) of the Weapons Prohibition Act (NSW).
He was sentenced to an 11-month Intensive Correction Order for using a carriage service to threaten to kill, and a two-year Community Correction Order, with 75 hours of community service, for the weapon offences.
AFP Commissioner Krissy Barrett announced the establishment of NSI teams in October, 2025, to target groups and individuals causing high levels of harm to Australia’s social cohesion, including those who target high office holders and federal parliamentarians.
