A Sydney man has been sentenced to a two-year Community Corrections Order and imposed a $1,000 fine by the Parramatta Local Court today (16 October, 2026) for threatening an Australian high office holder. He is also required to participate in counselling.
The AFP’s National Security Investigations (NSI) team began an investigation in December, 2025, following a report of threatening phone calls directed towards the office of an Australian high office holder.
These calls contained multiple threats of violence.
In the following days, NSI investigators executed a search warrant at a Greystanes home, where they seized electronic devices.
The man, 44, pleaded guilty to one count of using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence, contrary to section 414.17(1) of the Criminal Code (Cth).
AFP Commissioner Krissy Barrett announced the establishment of NSI teams in October, 2025, to target groups and individuals causing high levels of harm to Australia’s social cohesion, including those who target high office holders and federal parliamentarians.
