Sydneysiders get their hands dirty for National Tree Day

City of Sydney

More than 500 Sydneysiders are expected to gather on the Glebe foreshore to celebrate this Sunday’s National Tree Day.

The annual event, held with Planet Ark, has been on hold for the last two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore said it was wonderful to see the event return and provide an opportunity for people and families to come together to help green their local spaces.

“National Tree Day is a fantastic community event, and I’m so pleased that we can once again invite families and friends to come down to the park in Glebe and do their bit for the environment,” the Lord Mayor said.

“We’ll be spending around two hours planting 5,000 native plants across the park as part of our mission to increase greening in the city. These events provide invaluable support for native conservation and biodiversity protection.

“I’d urge anyone who’s interested to come on down as it’s such an easy way to take environmental action.

“You’ll be helping to bolster local bush land as well as greening our wonderful city so do bring your family and friends to take part in this community event.”

Banksia, wattles, perennial herbs, vines and grasses are just some of the native species that will be planted during the day.

There will be free refreshments on hand, urban ecology talks and an information stand for those wishing to
