Tamworth Global Gateway Park moving ahead

Momentum is building with the development of the Tamworth Global Gateway Park as construction works at several locations within the precinct at Westdale are about to ramp up.

A report to next Tuesday night’s Ordinary Meeting provides Councillors and the community with a detailed update of the multi-millon dollar project which is funded by the NSW Government, Australian Government and Tamworth Regional Council.

Tamworth Region Acting Mayor Phil Betts said it’s great to see construction move forward.

“While it has taken some time to get the many different elements in place which form the Tamworth Global Gateway Park, our community can expect to see a steady increase in activity at Westdale over the coming months,” Cr Betts said today.

“Preliminary works for the new roundabout at the intersection of Oxley Highway and Country Road are well advanced and early next year we will start to pour concrete.

“In recent weeks a development application has been lodged for the operation of Tamworth Intermodal Facility including the establishment of a new administration building.

“The detailed report to next week’s meeting gives a complete overview of progress and seeks some decisions from Councillors to keep it progressing.”

The report provides a summary of the status of the projects which comprise the project. They include the rail line reactivation, Oxley Highway-Country Road roundabout, trunk drainage works, Goddard Lane roadworks, access roads and the Tamworth Intermodal Freight Facility.

The Tamworth Global Gateway Park is expected to become the engine room driving the region’s economy for the next three decades.

“While it will be a new home for businesses and future jobs, firstly it is delivering big improvements to our road network on the western side of Tamworth,” Cr Betts said. “It’s great to have the NSW Government, Australian Government and Council working together to fund and construct it.”

The report to Council includes a request for funding to market and promote the sale of land at the park. There has already been some early interest from businesses looking to establish at the Park.
